I’m Tutankhaten, better known as King Tut. I was the 12th king of the Egyptian dynasty. Come with me back in time as I tell you more about myself and inventions that were invented back in time.

I was born 1341 B.C.E. I was named Tutankhaten because it means living image of Aten. I took over when I was only 9 years old. That is also the same year I married my sister, Ankhesenpaaten. When I was 18, I vanished into thin air. Later in 1922, my tomb was found by a guy named Howard Carter. Now, let’s bag up for the inventions that happened during my time.

I was alive when wigs were first invented. During the hot summer, we would shave our heads to keep them clean. At the time, being bald was not necessarily pleasing to the eye, which is why we invented wigs. At the time, they were not used to replace hair. They usually consisted of braids made of beeswax, which made them very stiff.

I was also around when the evolution writing started. At first, it was the pictogrmas that had a meaning to them. As time went on, we added more and more details to our writing system. We had something similar to the modern day alphabet. For example, we had specific sounds for different symbols. Once that happened, it was possible to write words and spell names. The writing evolution was changing slowly.

I was also around then the calendar was being invented. At first, it was confusing because no one had ever seen such a thing, but before long, it was easy. To make it, we took the yearly sunrise recurrence of Sirius in the eastern sky as a fixed point. We developed a calendar that had featured 365 days and 12 months. Each month contained 30 days and we added 5 days at the end of each year. Unfortunately, we didn’t add the fraction of a day, so we received the wrong data. Ptolemy decided to add 1 day every 4 years. That did the trick and we started getting the correct data.

Surgical instruments were invented in ancient Egypt. We came up with a technique to treat dislocated bones. It characterized 48 surgical cases of the head, neck, shoulders, breast, and chest. I showed the suturing of non-infected wounds while using thread and needles. During surgery, we used lint, swab, bandages, adhesive plaster, support, and surgical stitches. We also used scalpel, scissors, copper needles, forceps, spoons, lancets, hooks, and probes.

It was in ancient Egypt when papyrus sheets and the pen were invented. We first started using papyrus because we needed something to write our language on besides the caves. We used a certain plant to make the papyrus. Shortly after we invented papyrus, we realized that we would need something to write on the papyrus. We couldn’t use rocks to carve it so we had to think of something. That’s when one day, someone came up with the idea of inventing the pen. Although it has the same name, the pen during my day was different from your modern day pen. Then pen was made from the hollow stem of marsh grasses.

I wasn’t born yet, but pyramids were a big thing back then. The oldest pyramid recorded dates back to 2750 B.C.E. It was made for King Zoser, who was the kind of the 3rd Dynasty. Before the pyramid tomb, kings were buried in rectangular mud tombs. Although it was the oldest ever, it wasn’t the biggests. The biggest pyramid was the Pyramid of Gize.

Whew, that was a lot of information that was displayed. That was a long way back in time in going back to ancient Egypt. Did you notice anything different from your modern day things? The way of life then was way different than today.
